If you’re a health practitioner feeling like life is constantly getting in the way of your goals, you’re not alone.
You have big dreams for your practice. You’re ready to make them happen. But every time you try to gain momentum, something else demands your attention.
One day it’s a family emergency. The next it’s administrative tasks that somehow take twice as long as expected. Then there’s continuing education, client emergencies, and that marketing strategy you started three months ago but never finished.
Sound familiar?
Here’s what I’ve learned after working with hundreds of health practitioners: The problem isn’t that you don’t have enough time. The problem is that you don’t have a system for managing everything that’s competing for your attention.
Today, I’m sharing the exact framework I use to manage a multi-6-figure business, focus on intensive personal development, launch new programs, AND still have time for myself, family, and travel — all with a minimal team.
It’s called the DO IT! Framework, and it’s about to change how you approach productivity forever.
Why “Work-Life Balance” Is Actually Making You More Stressed
Before we dive into the solution, let’s address the elephant in the room: work-life balance.
I believe this concept is one of the most stress-inducing myths in modern culture.
Here’s why: The idea of “balance” suggests that work and life are opposing forces that need to be perfectly equilibrated. It creates pressure to compartmentalize everything and guilt when the lines blur.
But as health practitioners, our work IS our life’s mission. We didn’t choose this field for the money or prestige—we chose it because we want to help people heal and transform their lives.
Instead of work-life balance, I teach work-life integration.
This means creating systems that allow all aspects of your life to flow together harmoniously, honoring your mission while preserving your energy and well-being.
The Hidden Cost of Practitioner Overwhelm
When you’re constantly overwhelmed, three critical things happen:
1. You Stop Making Progress on What Matters Most
That online practice you want to build? The program you want to create? The course you want to take?
They get pushed to “someday” while you handle whatever feels most urgent in the moment.
2. Your Energy Becomes Scattered
Instead of focusing deeply on income-generating activities, you’re constantly switching between tasks, emails, and putting out fires.
This scattered energy means even when you ARE working on important projects, you’re not operating at your highest capacity.
3. You Start Resenting Your Practice
The work that once filled you with purpose starts feeling like a burden. You begin questioning whether you chose the right career path. But here’s the truth: You don’t need to change careers. You need to change your systems.
The DO IT! Framework: Your Roadmap Out of Chaos
The DO IT! Framework is a five-step system that helps you:
- Get everything out of your head and into a trusted system
- Organize your tasks and projects logically
- Identify what truly deserves your time and energy
- Create time blocks that work with your natural rhythms
- Celebrate progress to maintain momentum
Let’s break down each component:
D: Dump (Brain Dump Everything)
The first step to managing overwhelm is getting clear on what’s actually overwhelming you.
Most of the time, we feel chaotic because we’re carrying dozens of incomplete thoughts, tasks, and ideas in our heads. This creates mental clutter that makes everything feel more complex than it actually is.
Choose ONE Collection System
This is crucial. You need ONE dedicated place where you dump everything.
Not sticky notes on your computer monitor AND voice memos on your phone AND notes in three different apps.
Choose your preferred method:
- Digital: Notion, Evernote, Apple Notes, Google Docs
- Physical: A dedicated notebook or planner
- Audio: Voice memo app if you process better by speaking
The key is consistency. Whatever you choose, commit to using ONLY that system for collecting thoughts and tasks.
Do a Complete Brain Dump
Set aside 30 minutes and write down EVERYTHING that’s taking up mental space:
- Current client projects and follow-ups needed
- Administrative tasks (updating website, organizing files, billing)
- Personal tasks (grocery shopping, scheduling appointments)
- Business ideas and goals
- Continuing education requirements
- Family commitments and upcoming events
Don’t filter or organize yet. Just get it all out.
Create a Daily Dump Habit
Choose a consistent time each day to add new items to your collection system. This could be:
- First thing in the morning with your coffee
- During your lunch break
- Before bed as a way to clear your mind
The goal is to train your brain that it doesn’t need to hold onto everything because you have a trusted system for capturing it all.

O: Organize (From Macro to Micro)
Once everything is out of your head, it’s time to make sense of it all.
Identify Projects vs. Tasks
Many practitioners get stuck because they put “projects” on their task list instead of breaking them down into actionable steps.
Example of a Project: “Update website” Actual Tasks:
- Update bio section
- Add new headshot to homepage
- Write three new blog posts
- Update services page with current pricing
- Add testimonials to testimonials page
Create 2-5 Categories Maximum
Too many categories create decision fatigue. Keep it simple:
1: Business Focus
- In Your Business (client work, patient care)
- On Your Business (marketing, admin, strategy)
- Personal/Family
- Health/Self-Care
2: Energy-Based
- High Energy Required (creating content, client calls)
- Medium Energy (admin, organizing)
- Low Energy (routine tasks, filing)
3: Timeline-Based
- This Week
- This Month
- This Quarter
- Someday/Maybe
Choose the system that makes most sense for how your brain works.
Use the Four-Quadrant System
For each task, ask yourself:
- Do I like this AND am I good at it? (Your Zone of Genius – focus here)
- Do I like this BUT I’m not good at it? (Learn or delegate eventually)
- Do I dislike this BUT I’m good at it? (Delegate when possible)
- Do I dislike this AND I’m not good at it? (Delegate first)
This helps you identify what deserves your personal attention vs. what you should hand off to others.
I: Identify (Priorities and Boundaries)
Not everything on your list deserves equal attention. This step is about identifying what matters most and protecting your energy.
Review Your Current Boundaries
Ask yourself:
- What promises have I made that I shouldn’t have made?
- Where am I saying “yes” when I mean “no”?
- What patterns consistently drain my energy?
- How can I better protect my time and emotional resources?
Common boundary challenges for practitioners:
- Taking client calls outside designated hours
- Checking emails constantly throughout the day
- Saying yes to every networking event or opportunity
- Over-committing to family or volunteer obligations
Prioritize Income-Generating Activities
If you’re building an online practice, 60-70% of your business development time should focus on:
- Content creation that builds relationships with your ideal clients
- Social media engagement that demonstrates your expertise
- Email list building through valuable free resources
- Sales conversations with potential clients
- Client retention through exceptional service delivery
The Ultimate Goal: Delegate Everything Outside Your Zone of Genius
You might not be there yet, but work toward delegating anything that doesn’t fall into the “like it AND good at it” category.
Start small: Even hiring a VA for 2-3 hours per week can give you back significant time and energy.
T: Time Block (Work With Your Natural Rhythms)
Time blocking is one of the most powerful productivity tools for health practitioners because it helps you focus deeply instead of constantly task-switching.
Get Real With Your Calendar
1: Use ONE calendar for everything. Personal, business, appointments — all in one place.
2: Block out non-negotiables first:
- Client sessions and patient care
- Family time and personal commitments
- Self-care and exercise
- Meals and adequate sleep
3: Look at what time remains for business development.
Leverage Your Ultradian Rhythms
Most people can sustain deep focus for 90-120 minutes before needing a break. This is called an ultradian rhythm.
Instead of trying to power through fatigue, work WITH these natural cycles:
- 90-minute focused work blocks for important projects
- 15-20 minute breaks between blocks (ideally away from screens)
- Schedule demanding tasks during your highest energy times
Apply Parkinson’s Law
“Work expands to fill the time available for its completion.”
If you give yourself 2 hours to write a blog post, it will take 2 hours. If you give yourself 45 minutes, you’ll likely finish in 45 minutes.
Practical application: When time blocking, assign realistic but slightly challenging deadlines to each task.
Sample Time Blocking Strategies
For Part-Time Online Practice Builders:
- Dedicate full days to clinic work vs. online business development
- Use 2-3 hour blocks for content creation and marketing
- Batch similar tasks (all social media posts, all client emails)
For Full-Time Online Practitioners:
- Morning blocks for high-energy creative work
- Afternoon blocks for client delivery and admin
- Specific days for different business functions

!: Celebrate (The Secret to Sustainable Success)
The exclamation point in DO IT! stands for celebration — and this might be the most important step.
Why Celebration Matters for Practitioners
Building an online practice is full of ups and downs. Unlike traditional employment where you get regular feedback and paychecks, entrepreneurship requires you to be your own source of motivation and recognition.
Every small win gives your brain a dopamine hit, which:
- Reinforces positive behaviors
- Builds confidence for tackling bigger challenges
- Creates emotional resilience during difficult periods
- Maintains momentum during slow growth phases
How to Celebrate Intentionally
Micro-celebrations (daily/weekly wins):
- Acknowledge completing your daily task list
- Recognize publishing a piece of content
- Honor showing up even when you didn’t feel like it
Macro-celebrations (monthly/quarterly milestones):
- First client enrollment
- Hitting revenue goals
- Completing a major project or program launch
- Receiving meaningful client testimonials
Make It a Habit
Don’t wait for “big” achievements to celebrate. The practitioners who build sustainable, fulfilling practices are those who learn to find joy in the daily process, not just the major outcomes.
Real Results from The DO IT! Framework
The practitioners I’ve worked with consistently report dramatic improvements in their productivity and stress levels after implementing systems like these. Here are some real examples:
Time Freedom & Work-Life Integration
Angie, Chiropractor: Working with a hybrid model, she was able to reduce her in-office time while building her online practice. “Last week, I took my kids to a pool and I worked from the pool while they played there. I just love it. I get to do it but not in my office.”
Kacey, Osteopathic Physician: After implementing new systems and boundaries, she completely transformed her schedule: “I ended up leaving that job… I set my date for April… Now I have my brick and mortar, which is called Remedy Healthcare… I have more time with [patients] as well. So it just feels like it’s kind of like the best of both worlds.”
Reducing Overwhelm & Burnout
Rachel, Nurse Practitioner: “I was exhausted, burnt out. I knew I wanted something different, more fulfilling and something that would give me more freedom but I didn’t know how to get there… Now I’m working with clients one-on-one in such a new way… I have relationships filled with them and I truly know them who they are as a person.”
Chelsea, Naturopathic Doctor: After years of feeling overwhelmed, she made a complete transition: “I was like okay no I’m sorry I love you Boss I gotta go I’m like done with this… I had finally decided my husband and I… we’ll figure it out we’ll do it and start your own practice.”
Better Boundaries & Energy Management
Kristy, Naturopathic Doctor: “I can pay for things or I can buy other coaching programs or I can purchase things that are a much higher amount. And it’s like, doesn’t feel like it’s that big of a deal to me anymore… when you start investing, that’s really what it comes down to is investing in yourself.”

The Common Mistakes That Keep Practitioners Stuck
#1: Trying to Do Everything at Once
Start with brain dumping and organizing. Don’t try to implement perfect time blocking and delegation simultaneously.
#2: Making Your System Too Complicated
If your productivity system requires a PhD to understand, you won’t use it consistently. Simple and consistent beats complex and perfect.
#3: Not Accounting for Your Practitioner Identity
You’re not just a business owner—you’re a healer with specific ethical obligations and energy management needs. Your systems should honor this.
#4: Forgetting That Progress Isn’t Linear
Some weeks you’ll nail your system. Other weeks, life will happen. The goal is progress, not perfection.
