If you’re stuck trying to figure out how to build a profitable health coaching business, chances are you’ve come across plenty of advice. Some of it feels helpful, some confusing, and some just downright misleading. The truth is, not all business advice is created equal and following the wrong guidance can keep you overwhelmed and far from the freedom you want.
After years of trial and error as an online health practitioner, I learned that certain popular pieces of advice are actually red flags. Many health practitioners fall into these traps that slow growth and drain energy. Instead of holding me back, I chose to ignore these “rules” and focus on what actually helped me build a multi-six-figure practice with more freedom and less burnout.
Here’s the advice I ignored and how I now help my clients avoid these pitfalls to build profitable, aligned health coaching and practitioner businesses instead.
This sounds logical on the surface…start small, build trust, then upsell. But low-ticket clients are often harder to sell, harder to retain, and take way more work to make profitable. I was exhausted trying to juggle volume with low pay, constantly chasing new leads without building momentum.
So instead, I created one high-value, results-driven offer that made it easy for my ideal clients to say yes. Instead of a sea of small clients, I cultivated deep connections with fewer, committed clients. This approach freed up my time, increased my income, and aligned better with the level of support I wanted to provide.
I bought into this myth for years. I thought without tens of thousands of followers, I couldn’t make a real impact or income. But when I hit my first $10K month with less than 1,000 followers, everything changed.
I realized it’s not about the size of your audience, but the quality of your relationships with them. Building trust with the right people (those who truly resonate with your message) matters more than chasing vanity metrics. It’s a relief to focus on connection over numbers.
Posting daily and sharing useful info felt like the right thing to do, but the sales didn’t come. I was giving away a lot of info but missing the secret sauce: positioning.
I learned that information alone doesn’t sell; positioning does. So I shifted to speaking directly to my ideal client’s problems and desires in a way that made them take action. Strategic messaging that moves people emotionally makes the difference between likes and paying clients.

The pressure to show up daily was real and it almost broke me. The constant content grind led to burnout and a creative block. I was showing up online out of fear instead of intention. Shifting to a quality-over-quantity mindset was a game changer. I focused on posting strategic content that actually attracts and converts instead of just adding noise. Posting less, but with more purpose, helped me build stronger relationships, reduce overwhelm, and create content that truly connected and converted.
It’s tempting to think more is better, including multiple courses, memberships, upsells. But I ended up juggling too many programs, spreading myself thin, and confusing my audience.
Simplifying to one core offer gave me clarity in marketing and delivery. It allowed me to focus on perfecting that one experience and serving clients deeply. This simplicity boosted my revenue and restored my sanity.

Chasing every “proven” strategy was exhausting and demoralizing. I felt lost trying to fit into a mold that wasn’t mine, thinking there was a one-size-fits-all path.
Eventually, I realized success looks different for everyone. The key is to build a practice that fits your strengths, values, and lifestyle. There’s no one right way for how to build a profitable health coaching business, but there is a right way for you.
